Some stories feel like they unfold just the way they’re meant to, from our first beach maternity session to this dreamy newborn session in the family’s own backyard. This is one of those stories.
As a Ponte Vedra Beach newborn photographer, it brings me so much joy to walk with families from one season to the next. It often starts with a maternity shoot, full of quiet excitement. Then comes that long-awaited email: “The baby is here.” To see my Maternity Session clients going through once again an extraordinary stage in their life feels extremely rewarding. It starts with an email about their new pregnancy and a session request, follows up with chat about their Maternity Photoshoot, then birth announcement to confirm Newborn Session date. That’s how my Baby Plan works out. I am not going to deny it. Booking my clients for both; pregnancy and baby sessions makes me excited beyond all! Such an amazing opportunity to create heartwarming images for Jacksonville families!
I remember like it was yesterday, our Maternity Beach photoshoot during a beautiful sunset in the Atlantic Beach area. Images blew me away! This couple looked so at ease during the session, as if I wasn’t even there. We got hundreds of wonderful photographs, to the point when expecting mom had a hard time choosing her favorites. Guess what? Their newborn gallery from at home session isn’t any smaller!
Photographing New Life at Home
The plan was simple: a relaxed newborn session in their home in Ponte Vedra Beach – the rhythm of a new family settling in. It was one of those mornings where the sun filtered gently through the trees. We started outside because the natural light was too good to pass up: soft, warm, not yet too bright.
They had beautiful palms in their backyard, creating patches of shade that danced as the breeze moved through. I could already see how peaceful this session was going to be. Then the mama mentioned their garden, which is a tucked-away space just steps from the patio. “Would you want to take a few photos there too?” she asked. My answer? Absolutely.
Behind the Scenes: What Made This Session So Special
Once again I took on the role of Ponte Vedra Beach newborn photographer for a freshly expanded family! We started this session outdoors since the sun wasn’t that bright yet and it was still filtering through palms surrounding the house. Then we got an idea to move into the garden for baby portraits… So glad we did!

Q&A: What Parents Ask Before a Newborn Session
Q: What if our home doesn’t look “photo ready”?
You don’t need a spotless home, tidy up a bit and I will point to the best spots with good lighting to help you out too. Mostly, you just need yourselves, your baby and a little trust.
Q: Can we take photos outside if the weather is nice?
Yes! If it’s not too hot or too windy, and the baby is comfortable, I love incorporating your backyard or garden. Even just a few minutes of outdoor light can add variety and beauty to your gallery.
Q: Do I need to bring or buy anything?
I always bring a few wraps, blankets, and soft textures to work with. If there’s anything special you’d like to include, we’ll incorporate it.

This garden session reminded me of why I love what I do: documenting quiet magic in everyday places. Whether it’s your living room, your front porch, or a little garden behind your home, there is so much love waiting to be held in photographs. And when you look back months or years from now, I want you to feel what you felt that day: the sun, the breeze, the deep breath of finally being home, together.
