Neptune Beach & Atlantic Beach Family Photography Guide: Best Locations & Planning Tips

Why Neptune Beach & Atlantic Beach Locations Are Perfect for Family Photos

Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach are two of my favorite spots in Northeast Florida for family sessions.

  • Laid-Back Atmosphere: Smaller crowds compared to Jacksonville Beach, with a more relaxed, local vibe.
  • Scenic Variety: Dunes, open shoreline, and charming nearby streets for candid lifestyle shots.
  • Walkable, Family-Friendly Area: Just steps from restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques.

Easy to Make a Day of It: Perfect for turning your photoshoot into a full-day family memory.

Sunrise vs. Sunset: Picking the Right Time for Your Session

Why Choose Sunrise:

  • Gorgeous, soft morning light that wraps everything in gold.
  • Cooler temperatures in warmer months.
  • Quieter beaches with fewer distractions.

Best For:

  • Families with early risers.
  • Sessions where you want to enjoy the rest of the day without feeling rushed.

Sample Sunrise Day Plan:

  • Arrive just before sunrise in comfy clothes, then change into your photo outfits at the location.
  • After your shoot, head to Southern Grounds for a crafted latte and warm breakfast (their pastries and avocado toast are crowd-pleasers for both kids and parents).

Stroll around the Beaches Town Center to window shop or grab a few treats to take home.

Why Choose Sunset:

  • Rich, golden light and colorful skies.
  • More flexibility for families with kids who nap or sleep in.
The beach is lively but still relaxed in the evenings.

Best For:

  • Families with young kids who do best later in the day.
  • Sessions that end with a celebratory meal or dessert.

Sample Sunset Day Plan:

  • Spend the day enjoying the local area: brunch at Jax Beach Brunch Haus or lunch at The Local Neptune Beach, which has a menu with something for everyone.
  • Keep photo outfits clean and wrinkle-free until it’s time to shoot.
  • After your session, head to Coop 303 for dinner. Their modern Southern menu is a hit with adults, and the upstairs patio is a fun treat.

Finish the night with dessert or ice cream before heading home. Whit’s Frozen Custard in the Beaches Town Center serves delicious frozen custard made fresh every day.

If you want to keep the beach magic going after your photos, consider dinner right on the water. North Beach Fish Camp, located in the heart of Beaches Town Center, serves fresh seafood with a casual, family-friendly atmosphere and views of the ocean just steps away.

For something even more laid-back, Sliders Oyster Bar offers an open-air patio and a menu full of coastal favorites, perfect for kids who want to wiggle in their seats and watch the world go by.

Outfit & Styling Tips for Photos

  • Colors That Work: Neutrals, ocean blues, sandy tans, soft pastels.
  • Textures & Movement: Flowy dresses, linen shirts, light sweaters for cooler evenings.
  • For Kids: Outfits that are comfortable enough to run and play in (barefoot works beautifully).
  • Tip: Avoid loud patterns or bright neon colors — they can distract from the connection in your images.

Making the Most of Your Photoshoot Day

Think beyond the hour or two that we spend together with the camera. Make a day out of your family photoshoot so you can have memories you can all hold on to for years to come. Have breakfast by the water, explore the shops and cafes at Beaches Town Center, let the kids play in the sand after we wrap up.

If you’re ready to start planning, I’d love to hear about your family and the memories you want to create.
